Hot Rolled Pickled & Oiled Steel (HRPO)

Overview

A more ductile steel with a rough surface finish and is sometimes more difficult to machine. Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled (HRPO) bands are HR bands that have been processed through an acid bath to remove the oxides that exist on the surface.

Process

After being hot rolled, the treatment consists of passing the metal through an acid to remove surface oxides, and then rinsing and oiling the metal to reduce the formation of rust. The hot rolled pickled band may contain surface imperfections that were not visible prior to the removal of the oxide. Both HR bands and HRPO bands can be flattened by temper, skin rolling, or leveling.

Typical Application

Base plates, gussets, support beams, liners and other applications. Hot rolled pickled and oiled bands are intended for applications when surface is of secondary importance, or where a clean surface is desired for die forming or painting.
